2009 marks the 70th anniversary of the timeless classic, The Wizard of Oz. In honour of this, Warner Bros. Consumer Products in partnership with CRYSTALLIZED – Swarovski Elements, invited the worlds most famous and talented shoe designers to recreate Dorothy’s ruby slippers. Designers created shoes that bring the slippers right into the 21st century. The Wizard of Oz ruby slipper collection premiered in Saks Fifth Avenue, NYC, last September, and now you have a chance to see them in the UK. Until the 20th August the shoe collection will be on show in the Swarovski CRYSTALLIZED™ lounge, 24 Great Marlborough Street, London, W1F 7HU. Nadja Swarovski remarks:
“We’re thrilled to turn fashion’s spotlight in the most iconic pair of shoes, Dorothy’s Ruby Slippers, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz. As Hollywood’s premier crystal purveyor, Swarovski feels privileged to be a sparkling element of the original pair and now, we are looking forward to new creative interpretations of the Ruby Slipper for the 20th century by these talented designers.”
Designers of Dorothy’s updated footwear include: A. Testoni, Betsey Johnson, Botkier, Giuseppe Zanotti, Jimmy Choo, L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani, Moschino, Sergio Rossi, Stuart Weitzman, and Tibi. Their sketches can be seen below.
